THIS AVIATION ART PIECE IS TITLED, "WW II, SERIES II, THE FIGHTERS" BY ARTIST J.B. DENNEN. IT DEPICTS A P-51 MUSTANG OF THE FAMED 4TH FIGHTER GROUP, 335TH FIGHTER SQUADRON. IT HAS 41 SIGNATURES, 32 AMERICAN ACES/PILOTS & 9 LUFTWAFFE ACES/PILOTS. SOME OF THE SIGNATURES ARE SIGNED WITH INDELABLE (NON FADING) INK AND THE REST IN PENCIL. THE ARTWORK AT ONE TIME HAD BEEN ROLLED UP AND THEREFORE HAS A FEW SMALL CREASES IN THE PRINT, THEY ARE BARELY NOTICABLE IN THE FRAME. THE IMPORTANT PART IS THE 41 SIGNATURES (SEE THE COMPLETE LIST BELOW). BOTH THE LUFTWAFFE EAGLE AND THE 8TH AF PATCH'S ARE ORIGINAL. NOTICE THE CURVED MATTING, IT WAS DONE THIS WAY SO NONE OF THE SIGNATURES WOULD BE COVERED OVER & IT WAS ALSO DONE TO RESEMBLE THE P-51's AIR SCOOP, $1600.00 (IF YOU DO THE MATH THAT IS $39 PER SIGNATURE, THAT DOES NOT EVEN BEGIN TO PAY FOR THE FRAMING & THE PATCHES)
THESE 3 FRAMED PIECES OF AVIATION ART, ARE OUT OF ESQUIRE MAGAZINES FROM 1942 TO 1945. THE ARTIST THAT DID THESE BEAUTIFUL PIECES FOR ESQUIRE IS ALEXANDER LEYDENFROST. For many thousands of Americans who grew up during the 1930s through 1950s, Alexander Leydenfrost was the illustrator/artist that recorded the historical events of that generation. It is hard to pick up a "Life" or "Esquire" magazine from World War II without finding his artwork. Alexander Leydenfrost was actually born Baron Sandor Leidenfrost in Debrecin, Hungary in 1888. I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO GOOGLE LEYDENFROST AND SEE THE ARTWORK THAT IS AND HAS BEEN ON AUCTION. Each framed piece meassures 12X15" P-40, TBM Avenger & Vultee Vengence V-72 & I HAVE MANY MORE UNFRAMED BELOW SEE THE INFORMATION ON A NEW BOOK OUT ON LEYDENFROSTS' ART WORK AND JUDGE FOR YOURSELF IF THESE ARE NOT COLLECTOR PIECES.
EACH FRAMED PIECE IS $70.00

LEYDENFROST: The Baron of Aviation Art By C. Hampton Wayt and Howard J. Wayt. Recommended. Combat Aircraft Paintings Published by Esquire Magazine from 1942 to 1945. "Like Alex Schomburg's series illustrations, Leydenfrost's style is dead-on to Alex's 1950s sci-fi work!" -Bud. During WWII, full-page illustrations of combat aircraft were featured each month in Esquire Magazine. These were done by a little-known illustrator, Alexander Leydenfrost, whose work is showcased here.
He worked with Willy Pogany on many famous sets, murals, and magazine covers, as well as for designer Norman Bel Geddes. Among pulp fans, he's known for his work for Planet Stories, before becoming a regular contributor to Life, Liberty, Look, and Popular Science. His Colliers illustrations are famous, a collaboration on space and the future with Werner Von Braun.
